When customers are considering purchasing the Philips Respironics Portaneb, one of the most common questions asked is “What is the difference between the Sidestream and the Ventstream?”
The Portaneb compressor is the same for both, the Sidestream/Ventstream refers only to the medication chamber.
You would choose the Sidestream for saline and all commonly prescribed bronchodilators such as Salbutamol, Atrovent, etc. and it is suitable for use with both a facemask and a mouthpiece
The Ventstream is primarily for steroids such as Pulmicort, and also inhaled antibiotics as well as bronchodilators. It can only be used with a mouthpiece as it responds to your breathing pattern which means you get more drug when breathing in and waste less on breathing out. It is also supplied with a vent hose which protects other members of your family from breathing in your medication.
We hope this helps to make things a little clearer for those of you who are unfamiliar with nebulisers but if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment.
